Frequently Asked Questions

  Website Questions:

My Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides web space. Could I use that?
You could, but only if you’re satisfied with a web address like www.rogers.com/~myname.html (not exactly elegant or easy to remember or professional looking). And unless you’re willing to change your web and email addresses, you never be able to change to a different internet service provider (ISP).
Why would I want my own domain name?
Having your own domain name is good advertising and helps you to look more professional. Having your own domain name also leaves you free to change ISPs as often as you like, or even move to another part of the country, without having to change your website address or email addresses.

What is hosting and why do I need it anyway?

Hosting provides a space for your site on a server that is connected by a very fast link to the web 24/7 so your site is online just about all the time (99.9%). Hosting also indexes your domain name to the address of the server hosting your site.
How long can a web page be?
One web page can be the length of several pages of printed text. Dividing up content into pages is more to organize the information than because one page is not long enough.
What’s better about web publishing vs print?
Web publishing has a fast turnaround and minimal costs, is easily updated, doesn’t waste paper, and you can link to your website from emails. Print has its place as well, and we also do print design for business cards, brochures and catalogs.
What about making changes to my site?
We will maintain your site with changes as you request them. Charges will be based on time spent, with a $30 minimum.
What’s the next step in making my site better?
Content is king, but graphical enhancements are also good. A graphical navigation menu with rollovers is a good upgrade.
How will people find my site?
Print the address on your card or brochure. Make the content of your site valuable and informative so people will want to tell other people about it. Contact operators of other relevant sites and offer to exchange links.
